Cooler Xtreme : Coolers : Cpu Cooler : Global Win FOP32-1

Global Win FOP32-1

The FOP32-1 is the exact same cooler as the FOP38, only with a lower speed, quieter, more normal fan - and no finger guard, because like most 60mm fans, this one will at worst bruise your finger, not tear half of your fingernail off and blind you with it.
At $USD22.00 or $RM 90.00 delivered, this still isn't a cheap cooler, but it's got decent performance; 0.70°C/W in my test. A worthy candidate for the overclocker who can't stand the noise of a 7000RPM fan.
The GlobalWin FOP32-1 heatsink has been around for some time now. I've used one of these heatsinks on several machines and always felt that the performance was pretty good for the price. With the latest heatsinks on the market, though, the FOP32-1 is showing its age. It just can't hang with the new kids on the block. As a matter of fact, the performance of the FOP32-1 puts it solidly at the back of the pack in this roundup. The heatsink has the standard GlobalWin fan which pushes around 26CFM and uses a 3-pin power connector. It also uses the standard GlobalWin clip that I've already complained about. I won't go into that again. :-) The size of the heatsink shouldn't be an issue on the vast majority of the motherboards out there. The fins have been cut back to allow for clearance from capacitors that may be close to the socket. I haven't run into any clearance problems on any of the boards I've used the heatsink on.
When you crank up the speed (and generate more heat...), the heatsink starts to show that it just can't keep up with the newer heatsinks. The temperatures recorded were significantly higher than some of the better heatsinks in the roundup. As a matter of fact, the FOP32-1 heatsink showed the second highest temperatures that were recorded during the testing for this article. I was actually quite surprised by this. The FOP32-1 had always seemed to work well for me in the past. It continues to work well, it is just that the bar has been raised significantly by some of the other heatsinks. For $USD22, this heatsink just isn't the best buy. I hate to do this to an old heatsink friend, but the GlobalWin FOP32-1 heatsinks gets a ranking of 9th place out of the 10 configurations.
